Celebrity Solstice – Day Two (May 10) – Day at Sea

We weren’t very productive today, not too surprising on a day at sea.  There was plenty to choose from in the Celebrity TODAY schedule.  We just chose not to do much of what was offered.  A galley tour at 10 AM was the extent of our adventurism for the day.  On the tour we learned a few fun facts about how much food is consumed on a typical 7 night cruise onboard the Celebrity Solstice:

  • 75,000 lbs of fresh fruit
  • 20,000 lbs of potatoes (no instant potatoes on this ship)
  • 15,000 lbs of whole chickens
  • 2,600 lbs of chicken breasts (in addition to the whole chickens used)
  • 4,000 lbs of tenderloin
  • 1,300 lbs of lobster
  • 2,500 lbs of salmon
  • 3,500 dozen fresh eggs
  • 3,800 lbs of butter

We toured the main dining room galley, and learned that 99% of everything served onboard is fresh and made from scratch (very few things are pre-packaged, like sugar-free maple syrup, preserves, butter, margarine, some Kosher foods, etc.).  They bake all their bread and desserts daily, make all of their salad dressings from scratch every day, and use a computerized system to process orders to ensure that everything is made to order and not pre-cooked.  We also saw a cake decorating demonstration, and watched as they made decorative bread baskets out of bread.  During the tour we were served roast beef sandwiches and chocolate dipped strawberries.

The rest of the day was pretty lazy, with eating, snoozing, and relaxing on deck.

There is a host of activities for everyone … or you can simply relax in your stateroom, by the pool, or in one of the many lounges … you can also schedule appointments in the spa if you really want to endulge yourself!

After our dinner in the Grand Epernay main dining room, we went to the show “Pulse” in the Solstice Theater.  This is a show not to be missed!  It is a visual tour of upbeat music through the decades from World War I era to the present.  It included performances like Stomp, Riverdance, Broadway, Rock ‘n’ Roll, and Swing.  It was very energtic and entertaining, and if you weren’t paying attention you might not notice there was an intermission (it involved one cast member and a lot of audience participation).

Don’t miss this show!!
