Shark Diving in Costa Rica

5/13/2021

Picture
I stood on the edge of the boat peering into the water in full scuba diving gear, hoping to catch a glimpse of what I knew lay below the surface - sharks and lots of them.  Sharks were the reason I had made the 36 hour journey to Cocos Islands, located 600 km off the west coast of Costa Rica.  But all of a sudden I wasn't so sure this was a good idea.  Before I could change my mind I found myself plunged into the water.  The dive master had pushed me in.

Welcome to Antarctica

1/21/2019

Picture
It is a land with little soil, where 96% of its mass is covered in ice, with no indigenous people, no indigenous government. No economic activity exists, except for that in small isolated encampments of scientists and from the incursion of tourism to the island continent. Antarctica is a land of many superlatives. It is the driest place on earth, it is the coldest. Its land mass forms the largest desert on the planet. Its average precipitation is the lowest anywhere, and its mean elevation the highest of any other continent. It is the southernmost continent, its 14 million square miles almost entirely contained within the Antarctic circle, 620 miles south of the coast of South America. It is the windiest place on earth, the most remote. It has no time zone, since all time zones converge in its interior.

Fishing Vacations

6/5/2016

Picture
Fishing is a part of human heritage. Before our agrarian skills emerged, we were hunters and gatherers. The history of hunting and fishing dates back to ancient times when humans hunted with sticks and fished using pieces of bone as hooks and lengths of vine as line. Todayís fisherman has far more sophisticated equipment and is generally inspired less by the thought of dinner, but more to relax on the water, reeling in a few fish to pass the time. With a little help from your travel consultant, you can be "gone fishing"... in the most amazing waters on the planet.

No, the Plane Was Not on Fire

1/3/2016

Picture
It was a beautiful November afternoon in Queenstown, New Zealand, and I was suiting up to be thrown out of a perfectly good plane.  I had always contended (as recently as 3 days prior to this particular day) that I would never voluntarily JUMP out of a plane that wasn’t on fire (or at least visibily smoking).  So what was I thinking?  Simple, I needed to get out of my comfort zone, and more importantly, I was confident that the Tandem Master strapped to my back had a vested interest in landing safely on the ground himself.

This was my first foray into what is often called “adventure travel.”  And after I safely returned to Mother Earth, kissed her, and then hugged my Tandem Master, I decided that adventure travel was my new passion.

Yes, this is me tandem sky diving over Queenstown!!

Adventure travel doesn’t have to do with the particular destination, and it doesn’t have to be death-defying.  It encourages you to stretch your mind or your body but intentionally go beyond one’s comfort zone, seeking out experiences which are unfamilar.  It takes you out of that “been there, done that” rut and opens a new world of possibilities to you.  For an avid cruiser, it may be taking the step away from blue water (ocean) cruising and going on a river cruise or a cruise to Antarctica.  For others adventure travel may be more rugged, hiking Maccu Pichu, spelunking through caves, learning to SCUBA dive, or going on an African safari.

Whatever your adventure may be, be open to the life-changing possibilities that it has to offer!  We are here to help, just give us a call!
